HESC 1008/Lecture and Lab/001X - Medical Coding III | Credits 3.00
Prerequisite: a grade of "C" or higher in HESC 1006, 1007, and 1400; a grade of "C" or higher or enrollment in HESC 1003 and 1004. This course is designed to assist students in developing and understanding CPT and ICD-9-CM coding classification systems in order to assign valid diagnostic and/or procedure codes. Other classifications, nomenclatures, and medical vocabularies are also presented. The laboratory sessions include opportunities for application of coding principles related to reimbursement, the prospective payment system, and ethical issues related to reimbursement. Practice sessions will include coding inpatient and outpatient records, case mix/severity data, and PPS reimbursement methods. Contact Hours: Lec. 2 Lab. 3
